Professional internship experience is a compulsory module of almost any study program here in Finland. It is a great opportunity for a student to start the career of the dreams. In this article, I will be sharing my professional placement experience gained over the past 3 months.
The primary reasons behind my choice of internship revolved around the opportunities for remote and flexible work, aligning my work tasks with personal interests and career plans. At Katrium, interns have the chance to delve into market research, recruitment, project management, and various aspects of digital marketing. One can focus on a single area consistently or blend different tasks for a multi-dimensional experience. Moreover, the flexibility to complete tasks at my own pace during evenings, weekends, or even nights was a significant advantage. Balancing my internship alongside UAS study courses made the ability to craft my own schedule a crucial factor.
The supportive and understanding atmosphere, coupled with engaging work responsibilities, greatly enhanced my productivity. I maintained a workload fluctuating between 25 to 30 hours weekly, seamlessly integrating it into my routine.
My Professional Internship Responsibilities
My professional internship commenced with crafting diverse job vacancies posted on various platforms such as Facebook, Indeed, and Duunitori. I was intrigued to discover that these communication platforms suggested job ads with distinct characteristics. I crafted diverse job descriptions for each employee segment. While doing it I emphasized specific aspects of a job ad tailored to resonate with the priorities of each segment.
Recruiting constituted merely a fraction of my internship responsibilities. Shortly after starting, I received a concise yet immensely informative coaching session on Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Prior to joining Katrium, the concept of SEO hadn’t crossed my path. Roughly 250 out of my total 400 internship hours were dedicated to various aspects of SEO. I implemented SEO changes, including optimizing headings, adjusting keywords, revising keyword densities, etc.
Once I completed the optimization of all existing blog posts, I moved on to keyword analysis and my own content development. I gained proficiency in searching for keywords relevant to the company’s activities. In addition, I created up to 20 articles that adhered to SEO standards.
My latest learning experience involved managing a complete marketing campaign, starting from idea creating to its final execution. I was initially asked to devise a Christmas-themed marketing idea. With full autonomy in my selection, this is what I came up with. I was intrigued by the concept of setting end-of-year goals. While people typically set new goals for the incoming year, the idea of setting and achieving crucial goals in the final month of the year struck me as a powerful motivator for the year ahead.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, this professional internship experience has been an incredibly rewarding. Immersing myself in the realm of digital marketing has been enlightening, and I now feel significantly more self-assured in my professional capacity, poised to pursue similar job opportunities. While I acknowledge there are numerous marketing skills I’ve yet to explore, I’ve attained a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental facets of digital marketing. This grasp has allowed me to perceive the intricate interconnections among these concepts.
In my forthcoming work experiences, my primary focus will be on enhancing my communication skills and cultivating the ability to delegate effectively. During my time at Katrium, there were numerous opportunities for me to delegate tasks to others, yet I often found it more comfortable and instinctive to tackle the workload independently. However, observing the standard practices of task delegation within the company and experimenting with it to some extent, I’ve come to recognize the immense value and impact of delegation.
