My Internship Experience at Katrium
From April 12 to June 15, I completed a remote internship at Katrium. I initially started looking for an internship for the summer as I was preparing to move from Nice to Paris for my work. Transitioning to a new city felt exciting, but also a little overwhelming.
Why I applied
When I first saw the intern advertisement on Indeed, I directly applied after I screened the job description. There were two main words that gained my attention: remote and blog writing. I love writing in general, and the remote experience would allow me to familiarize myself with the big city before I start working in July.
Honestly, I was very nervous at first. Although this was not my first internship, I had never worked remotely before, and I was also scared of starting a new chapter in a new city. I was wondering if remote work would feel isolating and more stressful than working on-site.
In the end, it turned out to be more positive than I expected.
My Experience
Working remotely allowed me to settle down smoothly in Paris. I did not have to worry about daily commuting, and I had more time exploring the city and adjusted to my new surroundings. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I found myself enjoying the shift and flexible work life.
During the first week of my internship, I focused more on writing SEO articles using targeted keywords. Well, I’ve mentioned I love writing, but I had never written a company blog post. I learned how content can be optimized for better online visibility through different tools. Over time, I also onboarded new members in SEO writing and reviewed their articles.
On the second week, I involved myself with the HR and recruiting team, where I got to know other international members. I manage Indeed job postings by publishing and updating advertisements according to the current projects. The team was very supportive; whenever I had difficulty or got confused while doing my tasks, asking another member’s help would always solve my problems.
What I Learned throughout this Internship
Personally, the most important lessons I’ve learned are managing self-discipline and time efficiently in a remote setting. Working remotely is very flexible and comfortable, but there is no one to monitor your work 24/7. At first, I could easily get distracted by my phone or the snacks in the fridge, and sometimes the sound of the television when my housemates were home.
To solve this, I adapted my study routine to work: the Pomodoro technique. I would work for 50 minutes and rest for 10 minutes. Surprisingly, it worked even with so many distractions as I trained myself to remain seated for the whole 50 minutes every time.
Other than that, I also gained experience working in an international environment. Every week, we would have a meeting, and I learned a lot from their insights.
Should you apply to this internship?
If you are a business student looking for an internship with a flexible but insightful working experience, yes.
Working remotely is not as leisurely or as hard as it seems. You just have to experience it first. As you will be alone in your own ‘office,’ instead of looking for someone else to solve your problem, you will learn to find solutions on your own. Our supervisors always encouraged us to bring our own opinions and insights during the meeting, and I think this is what an internship should be like. You are giving the company your own ideas and insights, not just receiving and following instructions.
What I learned from this internship will surely help me in the future. In fact, I’ll be starting another job in Paris soon, and I am glad I worked with Katrium first.
Final Thoughts
My internship in Katrium was a valuable and meaningful experience overall, and I was able to grow both professionally and personally. I love the opportunity to work for the company and learn skills and build confidence for the next step of my career.
