When I found Katrium’s remote internship offer on Glassdoor, I was in the middle of an unusual situation. I was about to move abroad for my exchange semester, which also happened to be my final semester, and I still needed to complete my mandatory internship. A remote, international, English-speaking role seemed like the best option for me. After reading more about Katrium and its work, I felt it could be a good match, especially because the role covered a variety of tasks rather than one repetitive responsibility.
Looking back now, I can say that this internship gave me much more than I expected. I joined the team to complete my mandatory curricular internship and gain practical experience, but I ended up learning not only about recruitment and communication, but also a lot about myself and the way I work.
What my remote internship included
During my remote internship, I worked mainly with the recruitment team and supported different parts of the hiring process. My tasks included posting job advertisements, screening applications, contacting candidates, scheduling interviews, and conducting interviews for internship positions. I also worked on weekly reports, transcription tasks, outreach to universities for possible collaboration opportunities, and updating internal templates and documents used by the team. What I appreciated most was that the work was varied, which meant I was always learning something new.
One of the things that surprised me most was how welcoming the team was, especially Katri. I was in contact with her very regularly, and that had a big impact on my experience. In many ways, she felt more like a mentor than just a CEO. Through working with her, I learned a lot about how to approach work in a more practical and calm way. She taught me the importance of prioritising, being clear in communication, writing better emails, and not being afraid of making mistakes as long as I learned from them. That mindset helped me a lot, especially in the beginning, when everything still felt new.
I am proud of how much I was able to adapt in a short time. Before this internship, I had no experience in recruitment, remote work, or interviewing candidates. At first, all of that felt intimidating. I was stepping into a professional environment that was completely new to me, and I had to learn quickly. Looking back, I think that simply doing the work, even when I felt unsure, helped me build confidence much faster than I expected. By the end of the internship, I felt much more comfortable taking initiative and handling responsibilities independently.
Remote work was also an important part of the experience. It gave me flexibility during a busy period of transition in my life, but it also taught me a lot about discipline and self-organisation. Without a traditional office structure, I had to learn how to manage my time, stay focused, and balance different tasks on my own. These are skills that I know will be useful far beyond this internship.
If I were to say what I hope to be remembered for, I would say reliability and openness. I always tried to be someone the team could count on, and I was happy to help in different areas whenever needed.
Overall, this remote internship was a very valuable experience for me, both professionally and personally. I would recommend it to students who are looking for a remote, flexible and international internship and who are open to being trusted with real tasks while still feeling supported when needed guidance. If you are willing to learn, adapt, and take initiative, Katrium can give you a lot in return.
